How it works

A tank water heater keeps 40–80 gallons hot and ready, reheating as you draw it down. A tankless unit heats water only as it flows through, which saves standby energy but limits how much hot water you can use at once.

Keeping it healthy

Flush the tank once a year to clear sediment
Test the temperature and pressure relief valve annually
Check the anode rod every 3 years and replace when heavily corroded
Keep the temperature around 120°F for safety and efficiency
